Reading the Up Do
As a young girl, to my eyes, the beehive hairdo was the epitome of feminine beauty. I always wanted one but never had one...I began 2006 with the updo and french manicure (no pic of hands available at this time). Adjectives used to describe the updo by various wondering friends and family: loopy, medusa, fabulous, artistic, not bad now that I've gotten used to it (not really an adjective but descriptive in its own way). There was a happy occasion attached to the updo. I successfully danced all night in heels. My only regret (and I've had a few) is that the ballroom was strangely empty and there was no one there to dance with me when Frank Sinatra sang "My Way" and I wasn't drunk like the guy who wore his girlfriend's fake fur wrap half the night so I couldn't get up and dance by myself with an invisible partner.

I call that "devil may care" (make hair):-p i did an updo today too("hornet's motel") but not a slice as pretty as the one you've got going on here. "Duke" (Bill) would call this style of yours "organized chaos" - he's easy to channel when the name Frank is mentioned...I was listening to a radio interview with Paul Anka yesterday about how Frank was quitting show biz in '67, and that inspired Paul Anka to write My Way, which renewed both of their careers.
Great photo!
Oh Otto,
What a strange coincidence. Bob aka Roy (my dad - named for Rob Roy) always referred to my style (lifestyle & everything else) as "organized chaos". To think that Bill might see me in the same way is quite fabulously serendipidous.
And another coincidence...A week after Ami's wedding (the occasion for the updo), we were watching TV. My mom picks the shows when she's visiting so it was the "State Farm US Figure Skating Championships" and one of the boys, Johnny Weir, did his free skate to "My Way" (the Frank version). Johnny is a fantastic skater (he won gold) but I was thrown into a strange state of shall we say "organized chaos" at having heard the song twice in one week in odd contexts. "My Way" is not my fav. Frank by any means. Call me snooty but I'm much more devoted (as you probably already know) to the 50s Frank. That being said, I also found it weird to see a 20ish year old skater skating to that song with choreography clearly indicating that he (Johnny or 'the skater of the routine')was the "I/my" of "My Way". Anka said that he was too young to record the song and many critics thought that Frank himself at 50 was too young too. Sid Vicious, of course, was not. But to drag this on even longer, Johnny Weir turns out to be a "bad boy" of skating who appears to fashion himself in the Rat Pack image describing his style as "cognac & cigarettes". He's been censored/censured by the Skating Authorities for his "controversial remarks on illegal substances" and after he won gold and an Olympic berth this past weekend commented that "my mom is getting drunk already." Indeed, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that he was the guy wearing his girlfriend's fake fur wrap half the night in the Michelangelo's Banquet Hall ballroom on Upper Ottawa Street ten days ago.
I feel like everything about figure skating is summed up in the words "wearing his girlfriend's fake fur wrap."
